North-west Finnish Lapland (including a visit to Norway)
3rd - 7th August 2004
The North-West Lapland tour starts from the pine forest covered regions of Lapland and continues to wide open wilderness in higher regions all the way to the Norwegian side with high mountains and glaciers. Wild rivers and lakes, arctic wildlife. Due to the climate, early August can be very summery, but also cold or rainy weather is equally possible - therefore be well equipped.

3rd August |
Flight Helsinki - Kittilä. Light lunch at Levi. Levi - Jerisjärvi - Pallas. Short stops at the River Ounasjoki, and the famous old Keimiönniemi fishingfield at Lake Jerisjärvi. The journey continues to the Pallas-Ounastunturi National Park. Biology of the region. Possibility for trekking at the Pallastunturi fell. Dinner and overnight at Pallas. |
| 4th August |
Pallas- Kilpisjärvi. The road to Kilpisjärvi follows the River Muonionjoki, a large tributary of the River Torne that is one of the last unregulated large rivers in Europe, home to wild salmon. Visiting Iitto's palsamire area, mire with lenses of permafrost. Lunchpackage.
Dinner and overnight at Kilpisjärvi village, situated by Lake Kilpisjärvi and Saana fell. |
| 5th August |
A half day trip to the three nation border pole at Malla Nature Reserve by boat and walking. Lunch at Kilpisjärvi. Visit to the Kilpisjärvi biological station, limnology and biology of the region. Dinner and overnight at Kilpisjärvi.

| 6th August |
A day trip to Norway, trekking in Steindalen, a glacier valley in the Lyngen region or alternatively a day of your own choice at Skibotn village by the Lyngen Fjord. The Glacier valley is partly demanding, partly easy walking by a glacier river. A Track can be followed to the glacier and back, or a shorter way can be taken. Trekking asks for good basic physical condition and good trekking shoes. Lunchpackage. Skibotn - Kilpisjärvi - Hetta by bus. Dinner and overnight at Hetta. |

Hetta - Kittilä. Flight Kittilä - Helsinki. Transfer to Lahti by bus. |
