Virtual Finland – Your Window on Finland Lahti - Your congress city in 2004 The City of Lahti expresses a hearty welcome to all visitors and Congress participants.
Lahti is located about 100 km (65 miles) Northeast of Helsinki, the capital city of Finland by Lake Vesijärvi. Lahti is the gateway to the Finnish Lake District, well-known for its natural beauty where inland waterways dominate the landscape. Lahti is a dynamic economic and industrial centre of the Päijät-Häme region with about 100 000 inhabitants. The city has grown extensively during the last decades having thus a modern, spacious and green outlook. There are excellent daily bus and train connections between Helsinki,
Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport and Lahti and also good travelling
connections to St. Petersburg. Lahti provides an excellent setting for
congresses and seminars, thanks to its wide range of hotel services
and support facilities. The city and the surrounding countryside provide
many options for interesting cultural programmes. ![]() The city of Lahti can be viewed from several directions using the Lahti Mast -camera. The camera is situated in the middle of the old mast at Radio Hill. It takes pictures automatically every 10 minutes from three different directions depending on the time of the day. For the time being the pages are only in Finnish. Lake Vesijärvi appears beautifully, when you click the word “Satama”. You can look at the Lahti market place in real time. It is possible to use and master the camera for one minute at a time. The camera can be moved to look into different directions.
City of Lahti The Congress will be held in the Lahti Cultural Centre and at the Sibelius Hall – an unique Congress and Concert Centre constructed entirely of wood situated by the lake. The city hotels are located within walking distance from the congress venues. From the lakeside hotels it is only a short bus ride to the city centre. The hotels are nice and cosy and well equipped.
