What is SIL?

The International Association of Theoretical and Applied Limnology (Societas Internationalis Limnologiae, SIL) brings together scientists who are concerned with inland aquatic ecosystems and their management. SIL was founded in 1922 in Germany. The aim of the association is to further the study and understanding of all aspects of limnology. Every three years an international congress is held to promote scientific intercourse among those pursuing fundamental research and those concerned with practical problems. The previous 28th Congress was held in Melbourne, Australia, in February 2001 and the next 29th Congress will be hosted by Lahti, Finland.
