Social Programme

The Conference will provide excellent opportunities for sightseeing, networking and social interaction. All conference participants and accompanying persons are warmly invited to participate in the social events. You can register for these events by completing the appropriate part of the registration form.


Thursday September 1

Conducted tours

Departure time: September 1 2005 at 11.00 and 12.00

Language: The conducted tours are in English and the duration is from 11.00 -12.00 and from 12.00-12.50

Sights: During the tour you will visit the University and the most important and interesting parts of the historical center of Helsinki.

Important information: You do not need to register in advance because there will be many parallel tours

Departure place: The Tours will depart outside the University Main Building at Unioninkatu 34

Opening ceremony at 18.00

Friday September 2


Reception hosted by the Lord Mayor of Helsinki at 18.00 - 19.30

The city of Helsinki welcomes all participants and accompanying persons to a cocktail reception, which will take place at the City Hall, Pohjoisesplanadi 11-13.

Saturday September 3

Conducted tour at Suomenlinna Maritime Fortress at 16.00 - 17.30

Suomenlinna is one of the world's largest maritime fortresses. Built on six Islands off Helsinki in the 1700s the garrison town is one of the most popular sights in Finland. Suomenlinna has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991 and it offers an unforgettable experience with beautiful fortresses, unique museums, special events, idyllic cafes and cosy restaurants.

Starting location: Metsätalo, University of Helsinki
